Heaven Above and Below!
Destination visited: Hawaii
Activities included: Birdwatching, Canoeing, Scuba Diving
We travel to Hawaii for our 10th anniversay. It was the most memorable trip we have ever been on thus far! We went for the whales that were there for mating and givnig birth. Also to do some diving! We visited 5 islands in 8 days. NOT enough time! But AWESOME! Got to be the most Beautiful place above and below we have ever been! Including our first honeymoon to Grand Cayman!
We flew into Ouah and stay there only 1 day. Ouah is a busy busy island. We did some snorkling and sight seeing but headed to Maui the next day! Now Maui is Beautiful! Very romantic island! And if you are a whale lover, this is where you want to be! They are here! We also snokled at Molokai and Lahania. Then it was on to the Big island of Hawaii. We spent 3 days there! Now If you are laid back, this is the place! No one drives over 35 mph, except the tourists! So don””t be in a hurry here! They aren””t! EVER! But it is beautiful too!
There was excitement on Maui and the Big Island Of Hawaii that will stay with us forever! The whale watches were incrediable! The dives were even more! Between the whales, dolphins, octopus, and Manta Rays…..what an experience! There is so much more to do that you really need at least two weeks! You can get overwhealmed just having to choose! But the choices we made were wonderful! Being scuba divers, we spent most of our time on or under the water!
Like I said, Oahu is very busy, shopping, hussel bussle people everywhere! There are attractions to do but we just wanted to get on to the other calmer islands! Maui was our next destination for 3 days of diving and whale watching! WOW! The whales were incrediable. We saw a baby whale breech for about 30 minutes and mom even joined in at the end! Then another watch a mom, male ecort, and baby came right to bow of our ship! I was 5 feet from them! I told my husband to push me in! Incrediable! Eye to eye! Mom was protective of her curious little one! We did a shore dive one day and heard a male singing! Humpback males sing underwater! SO COOL! We didn””t want to breath! Oh the Big Island, Hawaii, we did more diving, and I got to swim with a pod of dolphins! One was a tease! He would come just close enough and swim away over and over, always watching me! I had to remember to surface to breath! Luckely we got all this on video! We also got to hold and pet an octopus! He was so soft and velcro like! COOL! We stayed at the Kona Surf Hotel on the big island, and there at the hotel, they shine a light on the ocean that draws Manta Rays to come and feed on the life forms that are drawn to the light. Well, we did a night dive with them! It was a life experience I shall never forget! These graceful, peaceful, harmless giants swimmming all around, above, and beside you mouths agape feeding! My husband said it was like being in the presence of angels underwater! So beautiful! We were only in about 20 feet of water and you could look up and see the stars in the sky! BEAUTIFUL! We also followed a wolf eel around as he hunted, caught, and ate his dinner! Really neat! Hawaii has so so much! Not just for the diver, but if you are a diver, you will love the marine life here! Top side has a lot to offer too, we just didn””t have much time for it! We did do a helicopter ride to the volcano to see the bubbling lava! (take motion sickness med! I forgot and got really sick!) We also went to the rain forest. That was neat too! Beautiful Islands here…truly, truly, Heaven above and below!
If you are a diver , You must do the Manta Ray dive on the Big island of Hawaii. Maui has the best whale watches when the whales are there, Humpbacks are there Dec.-April. There are other whale watches at other times of year! We missed seeing a whale shark by one day! BUMMER!! Most importantly, TIME! Make this trip at least two weeks, shop around for good deals! It is well worth it! My husband has a standing job offer here! Who knows, maybe one day he will accept! ALOHA………..
