Chiquiri Arriba Waterfall
Destination visited: Panama
Activities included: Birdwatching, Hiking/Trekking, Walking
A day trip to an exotic Waterfall, only known by locals in the area of Central Panama, close to Aguadulce.
Get to Aguadulce in Panama, really early in the morning to grab “La Chiva” (Really Small buses for no more than 13 persons) that takes you to Chiquiri Arriba. Get out of the bus close to “La tiendita de la loma” (The Small grocery store in the hill) in “Downtown” Chiquiri Arriba.
A 15 minutes walk in the Jungle to the Waterfall and bring your boots if it is raining season.
Hike the Chiquiri Arriba small town and wait for a “Chiva” that brings you back to Aguadulce.
You can talk with the locals there is supose to be a bigger waterfall close to that area but it is really hard to get there in the Rainy season, specially if you are not wearing Jungle Clothes…
Watch out for the birds you can probably get to see a Quetzal…(Who knows)
We where supose to depart really early in the morning, but circunstances maked it hard to wake up from the bed (Excess of Alcohol in my veins from the party of the ‘La Feria de Aguadulce’ last night).
We finally gather all people together 3 panamenians (1 local of Aguadulce the Gide ‘El Gordo’ He knew the place), 2 Norwegen exchange girls in Panama, 1 german girl and one girl from Belgium!!!
We walk to the ‘Central de Buses’ in DownTown Aguadulce, a “long” walk of 2 minutes since we where staying really close.
We took “La Chiva”, a one hour drive to “Chiquiri Arriba” in the montains close to Aguadulce, if you have a hang over, please don’t do this ride, you can probably experience how does it feel to be dying literally.
A 15 minutes Walk to the Waterfall in the midel of the Jungle, (Poor of those who where wearing Tevas Sandals, The trail was wet and we had to cross a couple of 2 feet deep pools of Mud).
We spend some hours swiming in the River, some local kids where stering at our really white friends who where probably some exotic species for them, no wonder why, these kids come to the waterfall like a normal day for having some fun, probably they have never seen people so white.
We had to wait one hour to catch the “Chiva” that took us back to Aguadulce, so we could walk around the Town and try to find some eateble food, but we weren?t able to find a Restaurant. The town was to small for having a Restaurant I guess!! So we had to eat bread with cookies!…
You can find trails to the Jungle, but it is probably to search for a guide that can show you the way to get back. You don’t want to be lost and biten by a venenous snake in the middle of nowhere.
